I’ve been listening to a lot of ZZ Top lately. I grew up in the 90s and 2000s, so the ZZ Top I knew was already into the greatest hits phase and just playing “Tush” on TV a lot. Knew they could play, but their concerts were backing-track heavy at that point, so I just didn’t get excited enough to bother looking into the pre-big-ole-beards stuff until recently.

Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote a big piece about reparations, and people are talking about it, and I’m using it as an excuse to post one of my favorite bits. This and the track that follows it, “Race War,” are probably my favorites on the album. The rundown of “people they killed” is perfect. The “getchohandoutmypock-” line destroyed me the first time I heard it.

Skated the Beltline yesterday evening listening to the new Tune-Yards album. She speeds up and slows down and digs in and has so many beats going on that it’s perfect for skating.
